Our Story

Our Story

Passionate about authentic Thai and home cooking quality, Prayoon Sununsangthong led her daughters, Wannipa, Kannika and Suleka to open Thai restaurants in Sacarmanto area in 1994. Today, Thai Basil has remained the same family restaurant maintaining its core values and family recipes. For over 30 years, Thai Basil restaurant is the most awarded as BEST Thai restaurants in Sacramento area by many publications including Sacramento Magazine and SN&R.

Our Chef/Owner

Suleka Sun-Lindley, co-founder of Thai Basil with her sisters and mother in 1994. Graduated with BS in Environmental Design, UC Davis, and Culinary Institute of America - Elite Program in 2016. Suleka is passionate about food and the impact food industry has on health and environment. She has incorporated all aspects of restaurant operations with the mission to promote sustainability and healthy eating.

We are passionate about bringing you fresh, authentic and high quality Thai food. For over 20 years, we have been cooking with fresh ingredients that are both in season and locally sourced from purveyors and farmers. We offer seasonal menus as well as classic Thai dishes. We're proud to be part of Sacramento's Farm to Fork community since 2014.

Our Commitment

It is our commitment to minimize the impact we have on the environment and supporting sustainability through our daily practices. We recycle, reuse and repurpose everything possible. Our partner Resoil Sacramento collects our pre-consumed green waste and delivers it to local farms for compost.

Thai Basil was awarded as "Sustainable Business of the year" award in 2014 & 2018 by Sacramento County. And was recognized with the Snail of Approval as Good, Clean & Fair that subscribes to ethical business practices by Slow Food Sacramento 2014-2016

ReSoil Sacramento

ReSoil Sacramento is a community compost collective that aims to close the local food loop - Farm-to-Fork-to-Farm. We build healthy soil to grow edible gardens and green, climate-resilient neighborhoods with the food scraps collected from our Partner Restaurants and residents of the Sacramento community. Trips for Kids

We are a nonprofit serving Sacramento's youth and teens by organizing group bicycle rides along Sacramento's scenic nature trails. We help kids aged 13 to 17 develop friendships and self-reliance, courtesy and mutual support -- skills that empower them in all areas of their lives.
